Post 16 Curriculum
Kesgrave students are encouraged to select four subjects from our range of Level 3 AS options. We also offer Level 3 Applied A Levels and BTECs, which have a stronger vocational component. These qualifications are assessed through coursework and examinations. This will enable students to study a broader curriculum, whilst retaining the specialist knowledge and understanding which characterises the Level 3 qualifications.
Entrance Requirements
To be successful in Level 3 courses including Advanced Level, Applied A Levels and BTEC’s, it is widely agreed that students need to have achieved at least 6 A* - C grades or level 4 and above in separate subjects to be successful, including Grade 4 in Maths or English Language, and Grade C or level 5 in subjects they wish to study or related subjects.
(Please note, English Language and Literature, Gateway Science, Additional and applied Science each count as a single subject, BTecs will be treated as a single subject).
Students will be given advice and support in making their decisions during Year 11 and because we know them well, our offers reflect individual needs and match students to courses that suit them. External applicants are also expected to meet the same entry requirements and we request a reference from a student’s current school with regards to likely performance at GCSE as well as skills and aptitudes in other areas of school life.

Subject Selection Advice
It is important that pupils consider the subject combinations they select very carefully to give them a balanced portfolio. Certain career paths such as Veterinary Science, Architecture and Physiotherapy require particular A Levels to be studied, so we advise all Year 11 students to use the Careers Library and ask for an interview if they need help in making their decisions.
Late applicants will be considered alongside external applicants after the submission deadline. Applicants will be interviewed by a member of the Sixth Form Interview Team between February and April.
